Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Just the best. The line is long sometimes, but wait time is not bad, you can decide on what to order while you wait! I love everything we ordered so far"
"My family and I really enjoyed the laksa. It was mildly spicy and flavourful. The broth was thick and rich and absolutely tickled our palates. We also ordered kaya toast and it must be one of the tastiest ones I’ve had. However, the ngau chap noodles was somewhat disappointing and tasted watered-down. It unfortunately brought down the dining experience at Yee Fung Laksa a few notches. Nonetheless, we had an enjoyable time and would highly recommend this place to anyone who’s in Sabah for a visit."
"Note: 5 stars for open early not for the food. Just a “white fake laksa” , need to Enhance your recipe. I finally tried Yee Fung Laksa and honestly, it’s a bit overrated. The laksa leans pretty sweet and mild, lacking the rich, spicy depth you’d expect from a traditional Sabah laksa. It feels toned down for tourists rather than bold local flavor. That said, they open really early (around 6:30am), which makes it super convenient if you just landed from the airport and want a quick breakfast. Not the best laksa in town, but an easy, gentle starter option if you prefer something lighter and less spicy."
"U need to ordered and paid before entering to your table Fast service Food served fast too Chicken wantan dry mee rm11- the wantan skin a bit thick Yee fung laksa rm12 - to me the laksa taste like Sarawak laksa Yee Fung ngau chap rm11 - i like it Easy to go parking if u go earlier"
"Local specialty laksa. (And to be clear, the laksa is not the same as what you get in Singapore or Penang). The version here has a distinct curry flavor and deeper umami. Lines may be long but very efficient. There is a regular serving and "King" serving size, with the latter having shell on large prawns (vs smaller prawns). Fresh and flavorful, but you decide if you want to peel by hand! The chili sauce on the side is very nice too. Wash it all down with a iced preserved lemon or plum drink."
"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ KK Yee Fung Laksa — Comfort Food Done Right! Today I popped by KK Yee Fung Laksa, and wow — this place totally lives up to the hype. I went for their signature laksa, while the kids had a bowl of fishball soup — both hits all the right notes. The Laksa Right from the first spoonful, I could tell this was a good bowl. The broth was rich and creamy, with that warm, comforting coconut-spice aroma that just draws you in. It wasn’t overly heavy or greasy — instead it felt balanced, with a lingering depth of flavour that made me want more. The bee hoon was perfectly cooked: soft but still springy. Toppings were generous, with enough prawns or fishcake (or whatever they used) to give the soup real substance. Every slurp felt satisfying. The Kids’ Fishball Soup For the little ones (or anyone who wants something lighter), their fishball soup is a gentle, soothing counterpoint to the laksa. Clear broth, bouncy fishballs, and some greens — simple, clean and kid-friendly. My kids finished it happily without fuss. It’s a good option if you don’t want heavy coconut broth but still want comfort and flavour. What works overall • The portion sizes are generous: you leave full, not hung up on leftovers. • The taste hits both comfort-food and crave-worthy notes: whether you want something rich (laksa) or light (fishball soup), both are done well. • Clean, friendly service — bowl out fast, and staff are kind. • Great value for money considering the quality: you get real flavour without overpaying. Final Verdict KK Yee Fung Laksa is a solid spot for both hearty and mild tastes. Whether it’s a solo laksa splurge or a family meal with kids, you’ll find something that satisfies. I’m already thinking about when I’ll come back — maybe for another laksa, maybe to try their other soup or noodle dishes. If you’re craving good laksa (or a comforting soup) — this fold-up shop deserves to be on your list."
"Legendary Breakfast on Gaya Street Decided to take a morning walk from my hotel to Jalan Gaya to check out this legendary spot I kept hearing about. I’m glad I did! I ordered a feast for breakfast: Sarawak Laksa: Rich and flavorful. Dry Noodles with Meat Soup: The broth was deep and savory. Ambra Juice (No sugar): The perfect sour kick to cut through the richness. The food was good and I left feeling incredibly full. Locals told me this used to be their hidden gem years ago, but it has since evolved into a major tourist hub—so the portions and prices have hiked up a bit to match. Still, it’s a very interesting breakfast spot for any visitor in KK. Highly recommend coming early to grab a seat! #KotaKinabalu #YeeFungLaksa #JalanGaya #SabahFood #Breakfast"
"Yee Fung Laksa is an absolute must-try for anyone visiting Kota Kinabalu! Ordered the large laksa and upgraded to tiger prawns—they were bold, sweet, and perfectly cooked. But what really blew me away was the soup: aromatic, creamy, and layered with so much depth. Every spoonful is packed with rich, satisfying flavours and generous ingredients. This laksa doesn’t just live up to the hype—it’s one of Sabah’s iconic comfort foods, and I’ll definitely be coming back for more!"
